Enjoy a rich feast of learning as a family...
Are you looking for a family-centred approach to home education, where all the planning and sourcing of material is handled for you? Leaving you and your child free to enjoy a rich feast of learning?
Between the Lines Home Education uses the tried and tested methods, techniques and principles introduced by Charlotte Mason to provide you and your family with a comprehensive home education curriculum, with open-and-go lesson plans all laid out for you.
Charlotte Mason was a Christian British educator who invested her life in improving the quality of children's education in the late 19th century and early 20th century. She wrote many books and formed the Parent's National Educational Union (PNEU), creating a complete curriculum for both schools and home educated families. If you're new to Charlotte Mason, don't worry. Our FAQ provides links to amazing places where you can learn more about this approach to learning.
The Between the Lines curriculum will eventually cover all 12 years of schooling across all subject areas, staying true as far as possible to the original programmes created by Charlotte Mason. We follow the basic principles of the Charlotte Mason educational philosophy as follows:
Children are born persons: Every one of our precious children are unique and have been created for a particular purpose by God. They are naturally curious and eager to learn. We as parents just need to cherish and support that curiosity and eagerness.
Education is an Atmosphere: Children learn best in a real homely atmosphere, where they can experience nature, life and real objects directly. During a lesson, the focus should be on the book or learning material and how your child responds to it. Your job as the parent is to take a backstage role and be the loving and kind supporting structure for your child to learn and grow.
Education is a Discipline: For lessons to flow well and for everyone in the family to be able to enjoy learning together, children cannot do as they please. Charlotte Mason gives lots of advice to parents as to how to form good habits of discipline so that your child can be joyfully obedient.
Education is a Life: Living ideas are presented to the child through well-chosen living books and natural objects. Living books are those books written in a story-like form by an enthusiastic author who has experienced what they have written first-hand. It is not a summary of dry facts as you would find in most textbooks.
